Live Cell Imaging : Comparison Video  


Research carried out by Mike Davidson at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Florida State University has identified significant benefits in using LED excitation of living cells.  Successful mitosis under LED, and blebbing under metal halide, were observed and can be seen in the video.

The video shows time lapse over 24 hours:-

  • Live Pig Kidney cells (LLC-PK1 line) expressing mCherry-H2B & mEGFP tubulin
  • Nikon TE2000 operating under NIS Elements
  • Identical exposure times of 250ms (mEGFP) and 600ms (mCherry)
  • Overlays of transmitted light from a Tungsten-Halogen lamp using phase contrast for the metal halide and DIC for the LEDs
