Ideal Filters

Today's fluorescence microscopes use a large number of optical filters to control light levels and block unwanted light. The optimal selection of filters can significantly affect the quality of results which can be achieved.

Because precisExcite® uses discrete LED wavelengths, there is less issue with unwanted wavelengths, particularly those causing bleaching. However, colour separation (dichroic) and band-pass (BP) filters are still recommended. Neutral Density (ND) Filters can be removed from your microscope as the precise control in 1% steps from 0-100% of precisExcite® is a more effective method of controlling intensity.

We have listed below the optimal filter characteristics for use with all the available LED wavelengths from CoolLED.

Filters sets can be purchased from a number of suppliers, including Chroma (www.chroma.com), Omega (www.omegafilters.com) and Semrock (www.semrock.com).
