Hardware Connections

There are a number of ways to control the pE-1 and pE-2 systems remotely.  Interface connections provided are: Ethernet, USB, and 15-pin D-type socket (female).  A Software Development Kit (SDK) is available on request for integration into imaging software.

A fully-configured USB connection is fitted to the rear of the main unit. This allows full remote automation of the Main Unit with wavelength selection and intensity selected through the USB.

Direct control over excitation wavelengths can be achieved through direct communication to the microprocessor within the main unit.  This is achieved by sending a user-generated TTL pulse to the D-type port.  This is suitable for applications requiring fast-switching (microseconds) of wavelengths and short pulse excitation.

TTL control is measured in microseconds. Pulse durations can be as short as 300 microseconds.

Using CoolLED systems under TTL control means that switching is achieved in around 300 microseconds.  The combination of short pulses and the high intensity of CoolLED’s LAMs is particularly attractive for Live Cell imaging applications.
